D.C. A.S.A.P.

Finally, today, we received our FBI background checks with the correct signature and seal.  Shwu!  That's a relief.  Getting those mean that we can line up Scott's teaching position now and that I can send away my documents for my Korean employer to worry about for a while.

We spent this morning buying a last minute travel package to Washington, D.C. so that we can get an apostille from the Secretary of State.  An apostille, if you've never had to deal with international residency paperwork, is an official-looking letter with a seal that makes a document valid for international use.  You can get it done through the mail; however, there are big time delays in processing of apostilles over the summer.  Mailing in documents would be risky, too, if the government were to shut down.  It will be more expedient and safe for Scott and I to just go and walk in to the Secretary of State to have it done.  Yes, I'll say hi to Hillary for you all.  We are going to make a little trip out of our errand, spending three nights right in the heart of the city and doing some sightseeing.  Scott's never been, and I haven't been there since I was a kid.  What to see?
